●賛成バージョン
I strongly agree with the idea that 24-hour convenience stores are necessary in Japan.
First, it is extremely convenient to have them open 24 hours. As the economy and industry have developed, there are so many kinds of jobs in Japan, which means not everybody works the day shift. Therefore, 24-hour convenience stores are indispensable for those who work the night shift. Furthermore, convenience stores in Japan are so much more than “stores”. We can withdraw money, pay our bills and have our personal parcels delivered to the nearest store.
Secondly, having convenience stores open 24 hours helps us feel relieved or protected especially at night. It is quite dangerous and scary especially for women to walk home at night but the light from convenience stores can reassure us that somebody is watching over us.
Although there are both pros and cons to 24-hour convenience stores, I believe that those stores are necessary in Japan.

●反対バージョン

I entirely disagree with the idea of having  convenience stores open 24 hours.
One of the reasons is that they waste so much electricity. There must be only a few customers coming to a convenience store in the middle of the night such as 3 a.m. but it’s always open waiting for customers. It has to keep the refrigerator or air conditioner on 24 hours, which is just a waste. The second reason is that they cause so much noise and people living near them might have some trouble sleeping at night. People coming in and going out makes a lot of noise, and so do trucks bringing in items into the store.
The last reason is that having convenience stores open 24 hours will help us eat something unnecessary at night. Food sold there are usually unhealthy since they have a lot of chemicals in it to make it look fresh. So taking in such chemicals so often is bad for our health.
For the reasons I mentioned above, I am opposed to the idea that 24-hour convenience stores are necessary in Japan.
